Short answer: Dental implant cost in Houston depends on your mouth, not a menu price. The number of teeth you are replacing, whether you need an extraction or bone graft, the imaging your dentist needs and the type of replacement tooth (an implant crown, a bridge or an implant-retained denture) all change the total. You get a written estimate after your exam, before any treatment starts.

“How much will an implant cost?” is one of the most common questions at our Houston office on FM 1960 in 77065, from neighbors in Willowbrook, Champions and across northwest Houston. The honest answer is that two people with one missing tooth can have very different plans. Here is what actually changes the price. If you are getting ready for a visit, our companion post on questions to ask at your dental implant consultation covers what to ask in the chair.

Why Is There No Single Price for Dental Implants in Houston?

An implant is not one item. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration describes an implant system as an implant body placed in the jawbone, an abutment that connects to it, and the replacement teeth it supports, such as a crown, bridge or denture. Each part, plus any prep work, is part of your dental implant cost.

The American Academy of Implant Dentistry makes the same point: total cost depends on how many teeth need replacing and where they are, the number and type of implants, and whether other procedures are needed to prepare your mouth. It also warns patients to be wary of an implant price quoted without an exam, which is why we start with an exam and X-rays.

How Does the Number of Missing Teeth Change the Cost?

The more teeth you replace, the more parts and appointments your plan usually involves. But more teeth does not always mean one implant per tooth. In general:

  • One missing tooth: usually one implant, one abutment and one single-tooth implant crown.
  • Several missing teeth in a row: two implants can sometimes support a multi-tooth implant bridge, so you may need fewer implants than missing teeth.
  • Most or all teeth in an arch: a small number of implants can hold an implant-supported denture that snaps or locks in place.

Location matters too. A front tooth needs extra attention to appearance, while a back molar takes more chewing force and may sit near the sinus or a nerve.

Do You Need an Extraction or Bone Graft First?

If a damaged tooth is still in place, it has to come out before an implant can go in. A routine tooth extraction is a different step, and cost, than a surgical one for a broken or deeply rooted tooth.

Bone is the other big variable. After a tooth is lost, the jawbone in that spot can shrink over time. If there is not enough bone to hold an implant securely, your dentist may recommend bone grafting first, either at the time of the extraction or as a separate visit. A graft adds a step and healing time, and it appears as its own line on your estimate.

What Imaging Is Part of Implant Planning?

Your dentist needs to see the height and width of the bone, the roots of neighboring teeth, and where nerves and sinuses sit. That usually starts with digital X-rays and a panoramic X-ray, which shows the full upper and lower jaw in one image. Imaging is part of the planning cost, and it is what makes an accurate estimate possible.

Implant Crown, Bridge or Implant Denture: Which Costs More?

The replacement teeth are a major part of the total. In general:

  • Implant crown: one custom tooth on one implant. Replacing several teeth this way means several implants and crowns.
  • Implant bridge: a few connected teeth held by two or more implants. It can replace a gap with fewer implants than teeth.
  • Implant-retained denture: a full set of teeth anchored to implants. Removable and fixed designs are planned differently and are priced differently.

According to the ADA’s MouthHealthy guide, you may also wear a temporary crown, bridge or denture while the final teeth are being made, which can be part of your plan.

Does Dental Insurance Cover Implants in Houston?

Coverage varies a lot from plan to plan. Some plans help with parts of the treatment, such as the exam, X-rays, extraction or the crown, while others have limits, waiting periods or annual maximums that affect what you pay out of pocket.

We accept most PPO dental plans. Our team will verify your coverage and walk you through financing options before treatment begins. Financing through CareCredit and Cherry is available, subject to credit approval. You can read more about flexible payment options on our blog.

How Do Healing Time and Treatment Stages Affect the Total?

Implants are usually done in stages, and each stage is a visit. The ADA’s MouthHealthy guide describes three general phases: placing the implant in the jawbone, letting the bone heal around it (called osseointegration), and attaching the replacement tooth or teeth. The FDA notes that healing of the implant body may take several months or longer.

A plan with an extraction, a graft and a healing period simply has more steps than a plan for a healthy site with good bone. Your overall health matters as well: the FDA notes that smoking may affect healing and long-term success, so your dentist reviews your medical history as part of planning.

How Do You Get an Accurate Dental Implant Estimate in Houston?

Start with an exam. At your visit, the dentist will look at the missing or failing tooth, review your health history, take the X-rays needed for planning and talk through which options fit your mouth. You then get a written estimate that lists each step, so you can compare options and check your insurance before deciding.

Dental Implant Cost in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions

Can you tell me the price of a dental implant over the phone?

Not accurately. The total depends on how many teeth you are replacing, whether you need an extraction or bone graft, the imaging needed and the type of replacement tooth. We give you a written estimate after your exam.

Is a bone graft always needed before an implant?

No. A graft is only recommended when there is not enough healthy bone to hold the implant securely. Your dentist checks this with an exam and X-rays.

Does insurance pay for dental implants?

It depends on your plan. Some plans help with parts of implant treatment and others have limits. We accept most PPO dental plans, and our team will verify your coverage and walk you through financing options.

Is financing available for dental implants?

Yes. Financing through CareCredit and Cherry is available, subject to credit approval.
