When a dental emergency hits, many people search for a “24 hour emergency dentist in Houston.” Before you start calling around, it helps to know what’s actually available, what you can handle at home, and when a hospital is the right place to go. This guide covers all three, along with how SmilexPro Dentistry can help.

Does SmilexPro Dentistry Offer 24-Hour Care?

No. We don’t offer 24-hour, overnight or after-hours care, and we won’t pretend otherwise. What we do offer is same-day help whenever we can fit you in during business hours, and a team that answers the phone and tells you honestly what to do next. Our Houston office is open seven days a week, which covers most weekends and holidays when other offices are closed.

  • Houston (FM 1960, 77065): Monday–Sunday, 9 AM–6 PM. Call 281-469-4500.
  • Cypress (77433): Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 9 AM–6 PM, plus every other Wednesday. Closed Sunday and Monday. Call 281-845-2088.

Is It a Dental Emergency?

Call a dentist as soon as possible if you have:

  • Severe or throbbing tooth pain that won’t go away
  • Swelling of the gums, face or jaw
  • A knocked-out or loosened tooth
  • A cracked or broken tooth with pain or sharp edges
  • A lost crown or filling that’s causing pain
  • Signs of infection, like a bad taste or a pimple-like bump on the gum

Minor chips without pain, mild sensitivity or a slightly loose filling can usually wait for the next available appointment. Call anyway and we’ll help you decide.

When to Go to the Emergency Room

If you have swelling that affects your breathing or swallowing, uncontrolled bleeding, a high fever with facial swelling, or a jaw injury after an accident, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911 right away. Those situations need hospital care first, and you can follow up with a dentist afterward.

What to Do Until You Can See a Dentist

  • Toothache: rinse with warm salt water, floss gently to remove trapped food, and use a cold compress on your cheek.
  • Knocked-out tooth: hold it by the crown, rinse it gently, and try to put it back in the socket or keep it in milk. Get care right away.
  • Broken tooth: save the pieces, rinse your mouth, and cover sharp edges with sugar-free gum or dental wax.
  • Lost crown: keep it safe and bring it with you. Don’t glue it back with household adhesives.
  • Bleeding: apply firm pressure with clean gauze for 10–15 minutes.

Dental Emergencies Around the Holidays

Holidays bring hard candy, nuts, bones in holiday meals, travel, and lots of distractions, so cracked teeth and lost fillings are common. A little planning helps:

  • Save our office numbers in your phone before you need them.
  • Don’t use your teeth to crack nuts or open packages.
  • If you’re traveling, pack a small kit with floss, dental wax, gauze and a pain reliever.
  • Keep up your normal brushing and flossing, even on busy days.
  • Get any lingering sensitivity checked before the holidays, not during them.

Because our Houston office is open every day, 9 AM–6 PM, you often don’t have to wait until after a long weekend to be seen. Call ahead on holidays to confirm we’re open that day.

Make a Plan Before You Need It

  • Save our numbers: Houston 281-469-4500, Cypress 281-845-2088.
  • Know the closest hospital ER for true medical emergencies.
  • Keep your ID and a list of your medications handy.
  • Keep regular checkups so small problems get caught early.

Walk-ins are welcome during business hours, but calling first helps us get you in faster.
